Strangest of Neighbors

I moved to NYC in the summer of 2021, just a month after graduating college, with no job and one friend.

I knew a few other people who had moved up to the city but couldn’t see myself reaching out, so for the first few months, I spent a lot of time on my own.

It was by chance I met some friends of a friend and started to get out of my apartment, where I had been spending the days surfing on Indeed.com and sprucing up my website.

I met Zach at a house party, the reason for which I can’t remember now. He was holding a film camera so, of course, I found an easy way to connect. I learned that he was the guitarist in a band called Strange Neighbors, a band I had been told I would really enjoy listening to but had yet to look up. I’d missed a couple of their shows since being in town but had it in mind to make it out to the next.

I saw the band for the first time a couple months later at the Knitting Factory in BK.

They’ve been in my top 10 Spotify Artists ever since.

The group, rounded out by singer, Aidan, bassist, Dana, and new drummer, Beau, are spirited and honest in their performances, and it’s hard not to smile when watching them play. Photographing their release show for EP, Party of None, last year was my first dip into the pool of shooting live music. I’ve since shot a handful of other friends’ bands, including Go Home, The LVP, and Panic Order, and get a thrill out of seeing these local NYC musicians in their element.

Strange Neighbors has been described in many different terms across various interviews and group bios. You could say they sound like one band or another; I won’t write you a list but rather leave that discernment to you. Check out their Spotify here and have the chance to familiarize yourself with their sound just in time for their newest single, “Crush”, to come out on July 30th.
